Common Pregnancy Questions

Let's face, whether it is your first, second, or more pregnancy, every expectant mom has questions.

While the material you can find on the Internet, from healthcare professionals, and even relevant personal experience is helpful, each pregnancy is different and new situations arise all the time. Having pregnancy questions is important for the well being of the mother and unborn child.

No one should ever feel uncomfortable or like they are being a bother to get the answers they need. With that in mind, here are a few more common pregnancy questions and their answers.

One of the most often heard of the pregnancy questions is how much weight is healthy and normal to gain? The answer is that with a normal sized woman having a normal sized baby, the gain is usually between 25 and 35 pounds.

For an underweight mom, doctors may suggest a higher amount. For an overweight mom, recommendations may be to gain less if possible. The important thing for moms of any size is to eat regular healthy meals and stay hydrated. The importance of this can't be emphasized enough.

Another common question relates to exercise. Is it safe to exercise during pregnancy? This pregnancy question is fairly straightforward. If the new mom is active before the pregnancy began, then there is no reason she can't continue during pregnancy. Of course using common sense is a good idea.

Check with a doctor if you have high blood pressure or want to start a new exercise routine while pregnant. Sweating and raising heart rates is fine as long as it is at a moderate level.

A pregnant mom will want to be sure she drinks enough water and avoids places where perspiration can't occur freely, like a hot tub.

Diet restrictions certainly rank up on the list of pregnancy questions. For the most part, there aren't any dietary restrictions during pregnancy for a healthy woman. However, experts do suggest eating only cooked meats. Sushi may need to be avoided at this time.

Checking to be sure meat is fully cooked would definitely limit some unpleasant problems. It is also a good idea to be careful about ingesting raw eggs and unpasteurized cheeses. Caffeine should be limited.

Overall a pregnant woman's diet doesn't need to change dramatically for the health of the baby, though some considerations may be needed.

Pregnancy questions are an important part of maintaining a strong, healthy pregnancy. Resources for answers include your doctor, the many books written on the subject, and don't underestimate the knowledge of other women who have been there and done that.
